Micardis: Beyond blood pressure control

Micardis is an effective form of hypertension treatment

Micardis is a form of hypertension medication used in order to treat high blood pressure and provide cardiovascular protection. The generic name for Micardis is Telmisartan.

Micardis works to decrease the constriction of blood vessels, therefore increasing the flow of blood and taking some of the pressure off of the heart. It can be used alone or in combination with other forms of hypertension medication at the recommendation of a physician. Micardis is categorized alongside other hypertension medications in the Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARBs) group.

Micardis is taken once a day basis and needs to be taken on a regular basis in order to obtain the maximum effective treatment. Micardis is effective in patients with systolic and diastolic hypertension and also in patients with isolated systolic hypertension. Micardis provides a 24-hour plus protection, making it efficient and practical for those managing hypertension including the morning surge. Due to the long-acting nature of the drug, which provides for continuous coverage throughout the night and into the morning when blood pressure levels tend to spike. Micardis is designed to manage the increases and surges of blood pressure change occurring throughout the 24-hour period.

Micardis was recently tested in a comparative study illustrating its cardiovascular effectiveness versus that of the standard ACE inhibitor Rampiril. This study compared the use of Rampiril alone, Micardis alone, and Rampiril and Micardis in combination to determine which medication reduced occurrences of myocardial infarction, stroke and congestive heart failure.

Based on the results of this ONTARGET trial, Micardis was identified as an effective tool in treating cardiovascular disease. Micardis was found to be as effective as Altace or Rampiril in reducing cardiovascular events. Micardis was found to be as effective, but it had less side effects than Rampiril or Altace. The ONTARGET study showed us that Micardis is an effective treatment for cardiovascular disease, and it is well tolerated. Micardis is an ideal medication due to the fact that it is an effective hypertensive agent. It is well tolerated with minimal side effects. It confers a full 24-hour hypertension control and the results of ONTARGET confirm that Micardis also provides cardiovascular protection.

Talk to your physician in order to address issues of cardiovascular disease and hypertension for treatment and regulation of blood pressure levels.
